Volunteering Opportunities

Our volunteers support us in variety of ways. They:

  • Contribute to fundraising that is vital to provision of our services
  • Offer administrative support
  • Volunteer directly with children, young people and their families at our residential weekends
  • Help spread the word by becoming a Wombat’s Wish Ambassador
  • Provide governance at Board level

Depending on your interests and skills, we can make sure that you find the right volunteering opportunity to suit you.

Whichever way you choose to support Wombat’s Wish, you can be assured that your help can make all the difference to a bereaved child

We are now recruiting for:

  • Fundraising assistants
  • Events assistants
  • Ambassadors

Experience

All applicants must be over the age of 21 – although exceptions may be made for young people who have had previous experience or expertise in this field, and/or relevant skills, aptitude.

Skills required

  • Ability to work closely with others as part of a team
  • Ability to listen well to all children and adults
  • Ability to work alongside children and colleagues in an ordinary and supportive way
  • Ability to talk to a range of different people – adults and children
  • Ability and willingness to follow instructions to ensure the smooth running of the program.

Qualities

  • Emotional resilience
  • A reasonable degree of fitness and stamina
  • An open, respectful approach to working with children and adults
  • Willingness to get involved in all aspects of the program including creative tasks, physical activities as well as domestic chores.
  • A sense of fun
  • A mature and responsible approach
  • A positive ‘can do’ attitude
  • Empathetic nature

All applicants will be assessed as for their suitability for the role they wish to work in. Working with bereaved children can be emotionally demanding and physically tiring. We provide training as well as debriefing process for those of the volunteers that wish to work on the therapeutic program. Police checks are mandatory for any volunteer working with the children. If you do not have a current police check Wombats Wish will organise one on your behalf.
